Preparation is important and arguably necessary. But often it comes down to mental strenght!

Good luck to all the boys and girls racing at Ironman 70.3 Weymouth tomorrow…A very early start and a long and lonely walk from the town centre car park to the swim start! The weather forecast is not nice and will certainly make it more challenging. Weymouth 2014 was my first middle distance triathlon and sea swim. The weather was poor as the picture shows! Some people were in tears before the start and quite a few didn’t complete the swim. The route had to be changed to a straight out and back swim (X2) with an Australian exit and re-entry. I remember thinking on the first leg “there is NO way I can do this again”….but once I had turned the furthest buoy at 475M (which seemed miles out to sea!) I started to enjoy it and could only think about crossing the finish line and collecting the medal. Tomorrow I will wake up my warm bed with a slight feeling of jealously! Maybe next year…
